June 2022 Hacker News Hiring Trends
Python is once again the top programming language after losing to TypeScript the last two months. Previous to the last two months' defeat, Python had been the top programming language for six years. Will it stay on top again, or will this battle between Python and TypeScript go back and forth into the future?
At the top of the overall rankings for June, remote postings still dominate along with Senior level experience, React, Back End and Front End. There's something for everybody in there.
As discussed last month and in plenty of other places around the web, the tech job marketing is struggling in recent weeks with layoffs and cutbacks in hiring. The "Ask HN: Who is hiring?" data confirms this trend to some extent. There was a significant drop in postings for June's thread. Compared to May, postings are down 5% and compared to June 2021, postings are down 26%. Worth noting that June 2021 was the all time high number of postings in the history of "Who is hiring?", so the baseline is a high bar here. But, on the bright side, June 2022 is still 44% higher than June of 2020, so all in all, there are still lots of openings out there.
